A proud tradition continues as the resident veterans at Sanders Glen Assisted Living in Westfield, Indiana, were honored during the annual Veterans Day program. Seated in the front rows were more than a dozen of our finest representing the various branches of the military. Mostly men, plus one woman, humbled and proud to recite name, rank and serial number. Each one pleased to state what branch they served in, and still it was obvious the branch didn't matter as much as the fact they were all serving their country in the U.S. military.
Sanders Glen has been fortunate to have American Legion Westfield Post 318 provide this program for 22 years. Post Commander Richard McDivitt and Post Adjutant Robert Whitmoyer have become like family to Sanders Glen residents. Both Army Veterans, McDivitt and Whitmoyer always stir the audience to reflect with a deep sense of gratitude as they remind us of the sacrifices made by so many to keep our country free.
In addition, the Sanders Glen Veterans Day Program wouldn't be complete without siblings Phyllis Davis and Stuart Davis providing entertainment. Phyllis and Stuart come from a very musical family. They have been gracious for many years to add the patriotic event with their talents on piano and guitar. The crowd responds in full voice for the singing of "God Bless America" when led by these talented friends of Sanders Glen.
